Financial Reporting Obligations for Companies in the United Arab Emirates

1. Registry for Submission of Financial Statements

In the United Arab Emirates, companies are required to submit their financial statements to the Ministry of Economy (وزارة الاقتصاد) (https://www.moec.gov.ae). The specific registry for these submissions is known as the "Commercial Register" (السجل التجاري). Companies can submit their financial statements through the UAE's eServices portal provided by the Ministry of Economy.

Public Access to Financial Statements:

In the United Arab Emirates, financial statements of listed companies are publicly available and can be accessed through the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange (ADX) (https://www.adx.ae/)) and the Dubai Financial Market (DFM) (https://www.dfm.ae/).

However, financial reports of private companies (LLCs and other non-listed entities) are not publicly accessible. Such reports are only submitted to regulators or free zone authorities and are not disclosed to the general public.

2. Legal Forms and Obligations to Publish Financial Statements

Notes: LLCs must submit audited financial statements annually, especially if they meet certain size criteria in terms of turnover or assets.
(PJSC - Public Joint Stock Company) — Obligated. Notes: PJSCs are legally required to publish financial statements for public access due to the nature of their ownership structure and stock market listing.
(PrJSC - Private Joint Stock Company) — Obligated. Notes: Even though private, PrJSCs must submit their audited financial statements as per UAE law.
(Branch of a Foreign Company) — Obligated. Notes: Auditing requirements depend on the local regulations and parent company obligations.
(Sole Proprietorship) — Not obligated. Notes: Sole proprietorships are generally not required to submit or publish financial statements.
(General Partnership) — Not obligated. Notes: A general partnership is a private arrangement between partners, so it is not required to make its financial information public.
(Simple Limited Partnership) — Not obligated. Notes: As a private partnership, financial statements are not published publicly but may still be audited if required.
(FZ-LLC - Free Zone Limited Liability Company) — Obligated. Notes: Free Zone companies generally submit financials to the relevant Free Zone Authority.
(FZ-PrJSC - Free Zone Private Joint Stock Company) — Obligated. Notes: Like regular PrJSCs, Free Zone PrJSCs must submit financial reports to the Free Zone Authority.
(Civil Company) — Not obligated. Notes: These are professional partnerships (e.g., doctors, lawyers) and are generally not required to publish financial reports.
(Joint Venture/Consortium) — Not obligated. Notes: A joint venture is typically formed for a specific project and does not have a legal personality, so it is not required to publish financial statements.

3. Audit Requirements for Financial Statements

The audit requirements in the UAE are determined by the legal form of the company, and certain criteria such as turnover, total assets, and number of employees.

4. Stock Exchange and Financial Statement Publication
